Teaching Experience
I taught English as a Second Language for about 10 years. I also taught diversity principals to several community groups for about 5 years and taught several journalism workshops.
Philosophy of teaching
Teach students to deliver facts with accurate news writing techniques. Give them an overview of Media and the Law and an overview of AP Style. Guide interested students in the study and practice of journalism.
To give students a passion for the written word and encourage them to search for their own writer's voice. To give students as many opportunities as possible to practice descriptive writing.
Give the students major projects that teach how to report. Examples: Profile, Feature Story, Covering Speech or Event.
Utilizing the classroom as if were a newsroom with stories being written on deadline. Give students opportunities to practice editing by using newspapers and editing other student work.
